This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Yes Al Sharpton is a toolshed jack-knob, but so is Imus. Imus really is a witless dumbass with no intellectual or comedic value to society as a whole. Sharpton and Imus can both dissapear and no one would miss them.

"with no intellectual or comedic value to society" would cover 99% of our "heroes" from TV, music, radio and the movies including Limbaugh, Howard Stern and even Oprah. Even what we get on PBS borders on no value. Is society what it watches?????

And eats.
Consider all of the reality television on the tube. Personally I think most of it is garbage and rotting society. How many shows can they make about joe blow getting a wife or lets put 30 retarded people in a house and watch them argue for 60 minutes, twice a week. Don't forget to get your action figures and trading cards.

    Societal rotting is evidenced by the fact that you are unaware that the "R" word is just as bad as the "N" word in many social circles.

      How much is Al Sharpton and people like Jesse Jackson pay these idiots to make remarks like this so the can keep the race issue alive? Keeping the race issue alive is Al Sharpton's paycheck. Hundreds of thousands of people out of work and all these people like Al Sharpton are worried about keeping their paycheck coming. Imus works for these people.

East Germany still exists, old West Germans, hate East Germans, they hate Polish, Turks, you name it and it is open, racism against blacks in Europe is the norm, but they hate all kinds. And get this, now if you fly in Europe if you are a non EU member read as American, you pay more, extra fees? Do we do that to anyone in America nope. we in US are to damn sensitive, time to cut the crap or will destroy our self and be the one hoping the EU will bails us out. Do you want that!!!!

          Wake up folks, get grip, get a job suck it up and move on, life is tough but tougher if you are stupid. If we want USA to remain strong we have to get over this crap, we are now discriminated against by the EU that includes England, get it. Move on so we can be the power we are. Why all the attention and credence to the bantering of these two? It's like a rerun of some time-worn sitcom. Their conversations are entirely for the splash. I can just envision Al making a point of listening carefully to every word of every Imus show so that when it's his turn to fart he's right on cue. No Imus should not be taken off the air. No, I don't think he's really all that racist. Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Dobbs and the blonde witch lady et al say worse things as regularly as a Sennecot addict. So what? They don'[t speak for anyone, they just yowl at them. People who ascribe meaning or significance to what either says need to get an EEG or something, just to ascertain whether or not any axxons are firing. Is there nothing more important to discuss?

                The Duke University case, Vick, rap gangsters, most of the people on our local crime show wanted for violent crimes, most of the murders in Jacksonville (and probably the rest of the country) and the list goes on. Face it, a few rouge blacks commit most of the crimes we hear about in the country. Is it any wonder that people make remarks? When the black community gets it's act together and solves it's crime problem then the rest of us might change our views. Until then, it's beware and be armed!!

                  I wrote it that way to illustrate the point that you seem to be making. It's more "newsworthy" when the crime is committed by a minority. That said, you might want to check the actual statistics on crime and race in the US.

                    Everyone is racist in some way or another. Those or you who say your not are fooling yourself. The problem is we certain portions of society that get all upset when faced with the truth and another section of society that bends over backward to try to say their not something they are. When 85% of violent crime is caused by less than 20% of the population it causes some people to view everyone of that race as a problem, that's wrong but that is the way it is...guilt by association. When are people going to start to take responsibility and get rid of the bad elements and stop waiting for the government or some special interest group to come along and save them. Political correctness has destroyed this country and brought in a generation of cry babies. Call me a name if you want to, I do not care since I know who I am. I'm the middle aged, white blue collar male who is sick and tired of people crying about having their feelings hurt and complaining about being mistreated by the man...get over it, get a job, stop producing babies for government assistance and maybe you'll find out there is something out there for everyone.

                    The Rev Al never gives up, does he? Like McCarthy before him, he sees racists under every bed instead of communists. He himself a racist? Yes - I've never seen him step into the fray for anyone that was not black. His annoying persistence is partly the media's fault. They report his every utterance like is was of the utmost importance and he just gobbles up the attention. As long as there are people like him to fan the flame and the media's unwitting support of his rhetoric, racism will remain alive and well. When will we ever learn?

                    Amen to that> And include Jesse Jackson and the presumptive Democratic Presidential Candidatein that mix. The bleeding heart "liberal" loves to jump all over stuff like this and of course blacks are never racist just us awful white people. Al Sharpton has been proven a liar, Jesse Jackson, the Rev is a hypocrite and Obama the Lama is an even bigger hypocrite. He won't use his middle name and anyone who does is acussed of using the race card. and on top of that he is only half African but in order to get those 90-95 percent black votes (but no racism there is there) he has to make sure they think of him as African American while the press castigates and shames the whites in to voting for him. This whole thing is disgusting......How come "freedom of speech applies only to the liberal press and the blacks?

                          Don Imus is an entertainment genius and a general @!$%#. Of course he's going to continue to sprinkle racial slurs and generally ignorant rhetoric into his programming because it gets your attention. It's a minor problem for him that the intelligent people of the world should be horrified at his blatant racism. Far more important is the fame and the money that his ignorance has won him. So the only effective solution is to stop supporting him and listening to his program, when the networks stop allowing him to spew his poison onto the airwaves...what good is a shock jock when no one pays any attention to what he is doing? You can all babble on incessantly about the crime problems within the African American community but people like Don Imus are just as responsible for the racial and criminal situation in our country today as any criminal out there.

                                  So many people talk allot and never know when to shut up and think about what they post on these things or how retarded they are. Imus opinions maybe racial, but who cares, its his right to express himself, you don't agree, well don't pay attention to him, ignore him, trust me you'll feel better. Every American deserves to use their rights, i have seen retards use this right and people don't complain about it, such as the people that camp out protesting out side the president's real home in texas, they are too ignorant to even open their minds and think things through, or the people bashing our government or the Muslims that support alquaida that our government lets them stand on our streets preaching their believes and spreading messages of hate towards us Americans. I saw that and the cops or government didn't do anything to stop them cause they said "Freedom of expression". If they are allowed to get away with that then imus too should be allowed to get away with this, which is really not even a big deal. There are allot of shows, such as Boondocks or comedians like Carlos Mencia or even Dave Chapelle that use some racism on their jokes or messages yet you don't see people complaining about them. This whole thing is stupid, i have seen allot more worst and people should just grow up and stop being retards when it comes to stupid things like this. And Big gay Al should stop living in the past and realise that its a new era and that racism for the most part is not even an issue in this country. Maybe he should use his talent to help the homeless, or for gas prices or for the economy, i think the stupid people are not the people who listens to Imus but the people who are easily manipulated by people like Big gay AL who thrives on attention and making useless drama over nothing. BIG KEY WORD HERE IS, FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION, IF TERRORIST AND RETARDS ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE IT, THEN WE ALL SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO HAVE IT.

                                    The reason behind the referrence to blacks as African Americans, is because back in the days - if a crime happened and it was done by a white person, it was always 'Italian-American' or 'Irish-American' whereby giving them an identity. But if it was a black person then the media would just say 'black' - giving no identity. It was like everyone had a heritage except black people.
                                    When you go back through the ages, you will see black people originated from Africa, as white people originated from Europe. How everyone got to where they are today - is another story.
                                    Yes I believe Imus is just an ignorant creep BUT so is Sharpton - two peas in a pod.

                                      Getting their act together would that include, being able to compete for jobs with like qualified individuals? Being able to purchase what they want, when they want and where they want. Being able
                                      to live in whatever community they would like?

                                      Racism is very difficult to analyze. Many whites assume behaviors of many blacks because
                                      it is what they expect, not because they saw something on television, but because they know
                                      most blacks live very different and difficult lives, are poor, receive poor health care etc. and have good
                                      reason to be angry with whites.

                                      I highly recommend reading the book "Blink"

                                      What I can't accept about the Duke University case, is that those fine law abiding young men, should not have been hiring strippers. They were falsely accused and that was a horrible thing.

                                      Don Imus, will continue to say inappropriate things, largely because he does not live an integrated life. Does that make him a racist? He is a racist because, he can not acknowledge that he is unable to filter
                                      his remarks. Interacting in this world requires responsibility.

                                      Success requires a survival instinct, not a victim instinct. No excuses. You gather the intelligence and the shrewdness to make your community thrive or you don't. No safety nets, no excuses. How else can we ensure the survival of the fittest - black, white, or more realistically a combination of all that are smart, strong and just.

                                            I understand the possibility of misinterpretation regarding Imus's comment. However , it could be taken in the context of which he claims he meant it. Under those conditions the authorities could be annoyed. All this aside who the hell does Sharpton think he is, and why do african americans think he so honest. Look at his record of lying, cheating on his taxes and creating falsehoods about people. I for one no longer listen to the likes of Sharpton or Jesse Jackson. The black community should be embarassed by the likes of these people. Unfortunately for Obama the image of such deceit will effect votes he so badly needs from the white community. I for one and many I know are beginning to doubt Obamas sincerity now that he is bringing race into the fold.
                                            The media must stop giving airtime to the likes of Sharpton . He is only hurting his own and damaging Obamas chances.

                                            White history month?

                                            Dude, the authorized history of mankind has been authored from the perspective of Western, white society - and that is in no way a hyperbolic statement.

                                            Even consider the Civil Rights Movement of the '60s. Why the hell do you think the only real mention of it was a few paragraphs about Martin Luther King? Yes, he was a great man, but he was a man who played the game with white counterparts. If you work within white society, then you will be remembered fondly, or even remembered period.

                                            The amount of racism on this board is staggering. Rogue blacks committing the majority of crimes? Is that a statement made with serious intent? Has it ever occurred to you that it favors the powers that be (the vast majority of whom, mind you, are white males over 50) to objectify the black community in such a way that they are reduced to nothing more than criminal intent? So congratulations on playing the role of the puppet to the T.

                                            And yeah, I'm white. So there YOU go.

                                              waveriderj: why do you feel that "many reasons to be angry with whites?' is a dumb comment? Have you ever experience what an African-American has experienced over the history of this country? Have you ever walked/lived in the footsteps of an African-Americian in this country? Have you FELT, literally FELT the pain that they have experienced, if not, then you should take your own words "how did you become an authority on appropriate behavior for people", before you criticize anyone elses comments.

                                              Why is it alright for black people to be racist against anyone? Why is there a "black history month, where is white history month? UMMMMMMMMMM let me think.
                                              White history has been occurring from the beginning of time. TWhite history is all that we get in school, so we know about White history, however, I do not remember studying about any White America who died trying to fight for each rights and justice for his/her race because they were denied the rights of being human. Do you know where I can get that information?
                                              America has been built on the backs of minorities, however, America (white America) seems to think that THEY did all this along and they are the superior race. Please, culture copies everything that Black America does and tries to make it their own, ie. rapping, when was there a White rapper prior to rap being a musical culture. I see White women with their hair braided (African tradition, they do not even know what it represents, they just think it is cute), white women having injections for bigger lips/breast/hips, why, because they want to have the appearance that African American women have had for years, except ours is natural, young white men/boys wearing clothing just like black men.
                                              If the black race is so bad and evil, murderers, etc. they why is White America constantly trying to be us?

                                                I know alot of black men and women who are just like me. And it's funny becuase what Al Sharpton is worried about by Imus's comments are that ignorant people like yourself will believe it, which by your post you already do. The reason why we get upset is because people like you say things like "if your people (ahem) get offended. its because they know its true!"

                                                  This entire 'controversy' is a sad commentary on the racial inequality and seperatism still rampant in or society. Was Imus' remark true? Was it really a racist comment or was there realism in it either way it was taken? Perhaps it WAS meant as a racial profiling commentary! But in all realism, it most likely wasn't and Imus, racist or not, was RIGHT! What's the crime in that?? He ASSUMED the charges were all brought up on Jones because he's BLACK!

                                                  And he was right and confirmed that. And yes, it's a true statement either way-racial profiling DOES exist here as well as some black (and white) men making stupid decisions when they come from poor families and suddely have millions of dollars thrown at them because they can run a fast 40. Or because they're big. Or because they can catch a football. WHY does such a big deal have to be made about it?

                                                  I'm sure every other black man here will agree that there are cultural, physical as well as financial disparities between blacks and whites. Let's just all agree that these differences exist and get on with getting along!! Denying these differences bring all blacks and all whites onto the same level playing field which actually breeds racism because we're NOT all alike! It's demeaning to African-Americans who have THEIR own cultural and demeaning the the white ppeople that have their own culture, too. And this ISN'T saying any one is 'better' or 'smarter' or that either culture has an advantage over the other... we're all just different and as son as we learn to embrace our differences and ACCEPT each other for who we are, the faster racism's ugly head will disappear from collective consciousness.

                                                  And Al Sharpton? He makes a living on keeping racism alive and well.

                                                  Here's what I don't understand.. How is Al Sharpton helping anything? He creates a huge controversy over some random comment and the media coverage simply rages both sides of this white/black existence. If he's creating this separation, how can he blame everyone else for it? Has he ever heard the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf? Sooner or later, people will stop taking him seriously... if they haven't already.

                                                      Excuse me Mr. Arcadian, you are calling Al Sharpton retarded and you type like a third grader. And Mr. Clark, you list a few choice Black American Criminals, but you must not be watching the crime shows I watch. CSI, Law and Order, 24, Criminal Minds, I can go on and on and talk about the shows that showcase true to life stories of crimes committed by white people.

                                                      I can also go down a long list of African American's that are rich and into sports and music that don't fall into the stereotype box you are all trying to put all blacks in. Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Tiger Woods, Russell Simmons, Prince, Bill Cosby, the list goes on.

                                                      The point is, if I watch the people on Jerry Springer, Girls Gone Wild, Spring Break, Sex and the City, and I won't mention all the teen school shows where the privileged white kids do drugs and each other. Am I to assume that all white people are that immoral? Remember it's the White priests that are molesting the children. It's the white men, locking their girls in the basement for 12 and 24 years while they are repeatedly raped. 9 out of 10 serial killers are white. It's the white kids blowing up and shooting up the schools for no reason.

                                                      And while we talk about the neighborhood criminals who prey on their communities, the bigger criminals are the white collar criminals raping this country everyday through bad home loans, junk bonds, insurance fraud, credit card fraud, identity theft and so forth. The majority of these people are….. shall I say it?..... WHITE

                                                      That being said, it's utterly ignorant to think that only "Black Americans" are criminals and a weight on our society, when by and large the biggest offenders to our nation are and always have been white. You don't believe me ask the American Indian, the Mexican, the southern blacks, the Asians. They will agree with me so let's just not go there and not tolerate anyone else going there.

                                                      It's not helping our nation and it's ignorant, offensive, and vulgar to upstanding citizens everywhere.

                                                      CSI, Law and Order, 24 and Criminal Minds are all fiction. They may have some basis in fact but they are still made for TV fiction. I notice you didn't mention America's Most Wanted, wonder why. I would suggest you review the statistics on violent crime in the US. They are readily available. I think you would find them quite enlightening. Keep in mind that the nation is only 13% black, what is the percentage of crime caused by the few bad blacks?
                                                      I agree, not all blacks are evil, anymore then all whites are immoral, but the few blacks who are do very bad things. Jacksonville has about one murder a day. The vast majority are blacks murdered by other blacks. If WGN is to be believed, Chicago is about the same. Of course the worst of our time, Hitler and Stalin, where white.

                                                      Yes, true. But they were discussing football players-not actors or musicians. And if Tiger Woods is to be believed, he isn't 'black.'

                                                      Imus had about an 80% probability on his side anyway, because that's the ratio of blacks to whites in the NFL. It was a moronic statement made by a moron with a microphone in his face. Why anyone would pay attention to Imus' insipid ramblings is beyond me anyway.

                                                          calling Tiger Woods African American is about as funny as the media calling Obama the first African American Presidential nominee....they're BOTH half breeds as am I...half white, half Native American, so how do I label myself? Hmm...depends on what I'm most proud of from my ancestory, so I'm Cherokee. The "white Nation" pretty much sucks and takes too much false pride in itself, but at the same time, you don't hear very much outrage from the Natives of this land. We were stripped of everything except some sagebrush and more false promises, but/and....I am NOT predjudiced in any way, but if African Americans are so unhappy here and feel they are still entitled to 40 acres and a mule, stand in line behine the Natives, the Chinese who built the TransContinental RailRoad, or simply get on another ship east bound, and go da &(# back to Africa and see if lifes better here or there. Bet you'll bring ur happy azz back within a month. Happy sailing!

                                                            Well, Imus may be an idiot, but he is no ignoramus. I was actually listening to the broadcast this morning, so this is my take on what transpired:
                                                            In the discussion of "PacMan Jones'" alleged behavior, Mr. PacMan is a serial offender, and this latest story comes as no surprise;
                                                            Imus certainly knows exactly who Jones is, and what his background/ancestry is. So does everyone else on the show;
                                                            When Imus rhetorically asks: "what color is he?", he already knows the answer. . . if he was making a "point", it was that characters like PacMan Jones PERPETUATE THEIR OWN STEREOTYPES;
                                                            Imus was not asking for an answer or a response;
                                                            When the obvious response was proferred, all that was left was for Imus to say "Well. there you go. . . now we know". He was responding to the unnecessary and uncomfortable comment from one of his cohorts;
                                                            Heck, the best writers and essayists on his show are, how shall we say this, African-American. Oh my gosh, they are funny, and articulate, and say the actually humorous stuff on that program. Imus is rarely funny or even witty. . . but his "sidekicks of color" are always witty AND funny.
                                                            Q.E.D.
                                                            For the record, I don't particularly like Imus - I much preferred Curtis and Kuby in that time slot.
                                                            So, why are we more outraged about something a jerk like Don Imus says (or doesn't say) than the actions of a trifling troglodyte like PacMan Jones?

                                                              Look, we need to acknowledge that we are a racist society. I think that the roles now are quite reversed. It is acceptable to be a racist and black, but not a racist and white. It is acceptable to have hatred for white people, to punish us for our forefathers' mistakes, to tout distain and racial epithets in music and call it "art", but it's not okay for whites to even have an opinion. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of living a double standard where I can't even say, "you people" about blacks, but Whoopi Goldberg can say it consistently about whites on The View. Her job hasn't been threatened at all! We whites are sick of trying to cover our butts for nothing! No wonder there is some lingering animosity. If we had a white equivalent of Al Sharpton, we would need to have him/her cloned. There would be too many "white racial instances" to go after!

                                                                Why is there a "black history month" wheres white history month? In case you didn't know white history month is Jan., Mar., Apr., May, Jun., July, Aug., Sept., Oct., Nov., and Dec. Is that not enough for you? You have no right to call anyones commit dumb. It's unfair when majorities are racists, and it's the fault of the majority system when minorities are racist. It's not about white, or black, it's about popularity and greed. If there wasn't a motivation for offending people, and getting the reputation and money associated with the persona, then Imus and Al Sharpton would be in the unemployment lines along with the rest of the racists. I've seen wealthy black people with worse views, than poor white people. But, I've also seen wealthy white people, say and act, more racist, than poor black people. So, it's not "If" you're racist, it's "How" ignorant are you? It's not even about race, it about ignorance, because, most people think "racist" people are racist, but, they are just ignorant.

Where are you and so many other nut jobs contributing to this blog, going with all this racist-yes, racists-no angry banter? Would you speak this way to each-other if you were talking face-to-face?

                                                                      Imus is an ENTERTAINER and a very smart one to boot. If you do not understand or like his 'put-down' humor, so be it. To bad that those of you who are all over him, do not know his real character as a kind, caring and benevolent person. He will never show that side of himself in public, because he is self-actualized and does not need our recognition. The fact is, Imus makes significant contributions to our multi-racial society without discrimination that I doubt any of us could come close to match.

                                                                      I have read too many 'chips' on too many people's shoulders in this blog. I can only hope that this blog, excepting a few reasoned responses, is in fact Nut-Job Central and I am outa here!

I was at my child's PTA meeting during February, and was asked to stand for the "Black National Anthem" HELLO - I didn't know there was one! So I sat down, along with several other parents. The next day, I was called by the school and asked to come in for a parent-teacher conf. I took time off work, and when I got to school, I found that all of us who had sat down during the Anthem, were in this meeting. We were in trouble for our actions. I told the teachers, and other school personal that It was not my anthem, so I was not going to stand up for it. I'm damn sure that if during a PTA meeting everyone was told to stand for the WHITE National Anthem - all hell would have broke loose - Jessie and Al would have made a B-line to the school to protest. Everyone has rights, all should have the SAME rights. So I'm going to start WETV (White Entertainment TV), Going to contact Donald Trump to sponsor the WHITE Miss America and Come up with the WHITE National Anthem! Turn about is fair play right?

Since we now have an intelligent black candidate for President, the white trailer trash are showing their low self esteem more than ever. If Imus is the best you can do, there must be money to be made in Racism - on both sides of the issue.

He does not speak for me, he does not represent my opinions, he is a blight on the image of us typical white people. I'm sure you could name a few black people that don't represent for you either. It seems like it's the worst of each group of us, whether white, black, Christian, Muslim, straight or gay that grab the headlines and spread their ideology like a virus to anyone that will listen. I try very hard to avoid people with viruses.

I think we need more of you in the country. I remember when I took an issues course during my second undergraduate degree and was very outspoken about my views. Everyone in there thought that I was racist. I am NOT a racist! But, my professor said to the class, "Holly is not racist, she is classist." I have to say, she was right on. I love any rags to riches story and I love anyone that works hard for what they have. I do not, however, like to hear people make excuses and justify immoral and downright horrible behavior because "they didn't grow up like I did".
